Storms lashing Brisbane!

Well, I thought Cyclones in Cairns were fun…. here’s a couple of images of the severe hail storms lashing Brisbane this afternoon, captured on the run with my iPhone… very, very ominous indeed!!!

iPhone App makes you wait to see your photos!

iPhone App makes you wait to see your photos!

The people who brought you the hit retro iPhone app Hipstamatic are at it again with the launch of another camera converter for your handset.

Hipstamatic D-Series is set to bring back the film feel to your digital photography by preventing you from actually looking at your pictures the second after you’ve snapped them. Working like an old disposable camera, you have to finish all 24 shots before it’ll let you go back and review how they all came out. Sounds crazy to begin with but try not to think about coming almost full circle and it might just be crazy enough to work.

“It’s an opportunity to bring back the idea that you have this roll of film and you shoot with it, and you think about what you’re seeing in the moment, more so than snapping a photo and looking at it, deleting it or taking another one,” said Lucas Buick founder of Synthetic, the company behind Hipstamatic, when Pocket-lint met up with him and partner in crime Ryan Dorshorst in London.

Photographer hangs from ceiling for Rugby World Cup

Earlier this month, the Rugby World Cup 2011 started up in New Zealand with an opening ceremony that left everyone slackjawed — so just how did the photographers at the event manage to capture the entire ceremony when it was so big and so bright? Reuters’ Bogdan Cristel was given an elevated view of the action — by being strapped into the stadium roof.

Keeping your camera safe on holidays!

Lost camera message

Keeping your camera safe on holidays!

I travel a fair bit and so, my camera gear is prone to getting knocked about sometimes. Lately though I’ve become very aware of just how much gear I have and how much its worth, so in turn I have become very conscious about how I safely store my cameras and their add ons. I’ve developed a small list of things that I go through each time I travel, and I have a few handy tips to share on both anti-breakage and theft of your image making tools.

1. Never check in your camera baggage and or backpacks…Ever! Insist on carrying them on board. I carry two things on board, my laptop bag and my main camera pack. Only check stuff in if you have a hard case, from Storm or Pelican or similar

2. Never leave your gear on the back seat of the car!….may seem obvious, but complacency rings a loud bell to thieves especially in big cities, that a backpack on a seat is ripe for stealing. Every hire car I get I go through the motions of storing ALL my gear in the boot. Out of sight out of mind. Going through a theft claim with your insurer will cause you a great deal of hassle.

3. Write down your serial numbers…and keep all the receipts! Whether you’re in business or just a hobby photographer, write down the serial numbers and model numbers of ever bit of kit you have and store it safe somewhere. Then when you leave your camera on the back seat of the car and it gets stolen, you’re insurer will know what camera it was…hehe

4. Photograph a message on a piece of paper in case you lose it! Write a message such as “If you find this camera, please call…your name, phone number and email” on a piece of paper, take a shot of it, and store it on the camera. Don’t ever delete this from the camera. If you ever happen to lose it, the finder will look through your shots (as they always do), and hopefully call you to say they have found your camera
